AI SDRs Are Automating the Wrong Half of Sales

Jul 23, 2026 | AI, Automation, business

The sales industry is obsessed with building robots that can send email. That is impressive in roughly the same way an automatic nail gun is impressive when nobody has checked whether you are building the right house. f you’ve been on Twitter or LinkedIn lately, you’ve seen the pitch: Replace your expensive SDRs and growth consultants. Spin up an autonomous AI agent, feed it a lead list, and let it blast out thousands of “hyper-personalized” emails while you sleep. It sounds like a founder’s dream. But there is a massive flaw in the logic and frankly I got so fed up with consultants taking my money and producing not even one meeting, so I built an internal tool that I am now sharing with my fellow founders and makers, MadLeadz.

Sending Email Was Never the Hard Part

We didn’t need AI to help us hit “send.” Typing a message and clicking a button has never been the bottleneck in B2B sales. The genuinely difficult part of outbound—the part that actually drives revenue—is answering three questions before you ever write a word:
  1. Who is the right company to contact?
  2. Why is this relevant to them right now?
  3. What concrete evidence justifies interrupting their day?
If you don’t have good answers to those three questions, your outreach will fail.

Automating Poor Targeting Just Manufactures Spam Faster

When you take vague, lazy targeting and hand it over to an autonomous AI agent, you don’t get a scalable sales engine. You just manufacture spam at lightspeed. You end up burning through your total addressable market, destroying your domain reputation, and annoying potential buyers with robotic messages that pretend to be human. It’s high-volume, low-context noise.

Automate the Insight, Not the Conversation

We need to draw a clear line between what machines do best and what founders do best. AI shouldn’t be cosplaying as a salesperson. It should be acting as a relentless, elite research analyst. AI is uniquely suited for the grunt work: research, verification, and real-time signal detection. It can scour the web, track hiring trends, monitor tech stack shifts, and synthesize data to tell you exactly when a company is experiencing a problem you can solve. Once that signal is detected, the handoff should happen. The founder should retain the judgment and conduct the conversation. You know your product, you understand the nuanced pain points of your market, and you have the authority to build a genuine relationship. No LLM can replicate a founder’s conviction.

Why MadLeadz is an Intent Radar, Not a Robot

When I built MadLeadz, I made a conscious decision not to build another fake autonomous salesperson. Founders don’t need a tool that spams people on their behalf. MadLeadz is built as an intent radar for makers. It focuses entirely on automating the right half of sales:
  • Sifting through the noise to find high-intent targets.
  • Identifying the exact timing triggers that make outreach welcome.
  • Handing you the verified research and context you need to write a message that actually lands.
Stop letting robots send your emails. Let the machine find the signal, and let your work speak for itself. If you’re interested use the code MIKED for 10% off forever or DM me for a personal demo.
